Do you cover your baby's car with a blanket or cloth to protect it from the sun? It's not a good idea
When walking down the street, I have seen that many parents cover the cart with a blanket, a cloth or a towel to protect the baby from the sun, especially on summer days when the sun and heat tighten. But this solution is not a good idea because it can be very dangerous for the baby.
According to Swede Svante Norgren, pediatrician at the Astrid Lindgren Hospital in Stockholm, this practice considerably increases the temperature inside the cart "as if it were a" thermos "increasing the risk of the child suffering a heat stroke.
Most strollers have hoods large enough to cover the baby from the sun, some even have ventilation with zippers or velcro systems, which provide shade and at the same time allow air to circulate. By placing a blanket or cloth hanging from the hood, a greenhouse effect is generated, preventing the circulation of air, something very risky for the baby.
A group of Swedish journalists conducted an experiment with two trolleys in the sun, one covered and the other uncovered. The one that was uncovered reached 22 degrees after an hour and a half. On the other hand, the one that was clogged heated up much faster. After half an hour it had reached a temperature of 34 degrees and an hour later it had reached 37 degrees. That is, 15 degrees more after an hour.
Remember that babies have a weaker physiological balance than adults, being more likely to suffer from dehydration or heat stroke. A risk that we must avoid, especially on very hot days like the ones we are going through.
So, it's not a good idea to cover your baby's car to protect it from the sun. Also, it prevents you from controlling it if you have a problem.
What to do then?
Instead, avoid going out with the baby in the middle of the day, always try to move around in the shade, use a high umbrella that allows air to circulate and place the baby in a cap and sunscreen.
And for future dads, if you are analyzing the purchase of a cart for the baby, consider that it has a large top with a good ventilation system. Also interesting are those that allow changing the hood for a lighter for summer.
